LatAm advertisers release declaration on advertising

Back to the overview
Latin American National Advertiser Associations have co-signed a declaration on the freedom of commercial communications. The decision to sign the declaration was taken unanimously at the Latin American Regional meeting in Mexico City on 21-22 July and is a reaction to concerted attempts to restrict marketing communications by regulators across the continent.

It cites the importance of commercial communications to economic growth through four key mecanisms; consumption, innovation, competition and the added value of the marketing industry in its own right. It goes on to state the unequivocal importance of commercial communications to media independence and, therefore, democracy at large.

The document will be used by the national advertiser associations of Argentina, Brazil, Colombia, Chile, Guatemala, Mexico, Paraguay, Peru, Uruguay and Venezuela in their discussions with national regulators and the press. The Declaration can be downloaded here.
