Malaysia's second CoCreate Series sparks conversations on crowdsourcing

On September 13th, the Malaysian Advertisers Association's (MAA) brought together Malaysia's largest and most influential brands in Google Malaysia's office as part of its CoCreate Series. 60 top brand marketers attended the invite-only gathering to discuss new opportunities to collaborate more.

Themed “Crowdsourcing, will it regenerate or degenerate creativity?”, the conversation circled around the use of curated content to complement big brand campaigns.

A series of talk-show panels highlighted breakthrough collaborations by Nestle, Windows and their co-creative partners Group M, Universal McCann to showcase the insider story on how crowdsourcing helps augment the virality of their campaigns. MAA President Khoo Kar Khoon, who is also the Communications Director for Nestle Malaysia, sees this series as a platform to help brand advertisers share learnings and spark conversations that will be mutually beneficial for the community. He feels, “Companies like Sony and Dell use the crowdsourcing concept to get ideas (from their consumers) because they know the benefits of co-create are great. You're talking to people who are interested in your products and know the subject well so they can give you a lot of input and they can become your advocates.”

In this second series, brand owners feel that there is a much needed forum for brands to start working closer together. In placing top decision makers consisting of marketing directors and senior brand managers to spark off collaborative stories and thought leadership, the industry in its entirety would be able to gain from sharing common industry issues and new implementable ideas.
