Spain comments on possible return of advertising to channel TVE

Back to the overview
The Spanish advertiser association (aea) recently issued a press release regarding the UPyD's petition on the possible return of advertising to the public TV channel TVE.

The press release said that:
  • There was the necessity for a reasonable amount of advertising to return to TVE, without disrupting the channel's programming. This would:
  • Solve the problem of lack of funding faced by TVE – advertising would allow the channel to maintain its quality without losing its ability to produce viable programming
  • Address the situation of lack of competition created by the mergers of Telecinco/ Cuatro and Antena 3/ La Sexta that have led to a duopoly in Spain
  • Promote consumption of goods and services to help the Spanish economy
  • Remove the stigma from advertising – a sector that contributes 2.6% to the Spanish GDP.
