Turkcell, Mundipharma join WFA

Turkcell and Mundipharma have joined WFA. Turkcell represents the first Turkish company to join the WFA's corporate membership, while Mundipharma, the US pharmaceuticals business, has joined WFA through its Singapore-based business.

Turkcell is the leading mobile phone operator of Turkey, based in Istanbul. The company has 34.4 million subscribers is the first Turkish company to be listed on the New York Stock Exchange. Turkcell also provides GSM services internationally. It has 9.6 million subscribers via Fintur Holdings and its affiliates in partnership with TeliaSonera in Azerbaijan, Kazakhstan, Georgia and Moldova, as of September 30, 2007. Turkcell's Ukrainian majority-held business Astelit, has 10.6 million subscribers.

The Mundipharma International Group of Companies are privately owned associated companies and joint ventures covering the world's pharmaceutical markets. The Group is particularly strong in analgesics, respiratory products, cardiovascular medicines, antiseptics and laxatives. It employs over 4000 people and have ex-company sales of over $800m of which 25% are from licensed products. Total sales of products developed by the Group are in excess of $1 billion. Mundipharma has research and production centres in the US (Purdue Pharma), UK (Napp Pharmaceuticals), Canada (Purdue Frederick) and Germany (Mundipharma) and through joint ventures in India, China, Latin America and Cyprus.
