In March, members of the Advertisers Association of Nigeria gathered for the ADVAN Industry Dialogue in Lagos.

Through this event, ADVAN aims to enable its members to be at the forefront in setting the industry agenda. It is an exclusive platform for key stakeholders to discuss crucial issues affecting marketers in Nigeria – from regulatory issues and media effectiveness to agency relations and digital and mainstream media.

In his opening speech, ADVAN President David Okeme said that young people and digitisation have had the largest impact on the industry in the last decade. “Young people, due to their numbers and spending power, have shaped marketing practice globally. Digitisation has brought positive impact such as data-driven targeting, scale, automated technology and consumer technology. The negative sides to digitisation are fraud, ad misplacement and ad blocking among others,” he said.

A panel on agency relations trends emphasised the importance of collaboration among clients, advertising practitioners, agencies and the media. The panellists also referred to self-regulation and training as key to pressing issues affecting marketers.
