Senior marketing and business leaders from across Nigeria gathered in Lagos for the Chief Marketing and Communications Officers (CMCO) Forum organised by the Advertisers Association of Nigeria (ADVAN) to address the biggest challenges in marketing today.

Opening the event, ADVAN President Folake Ani-Mumuney, Global Head of Marketing & Corporate Communications at First Bank of Nigeria, said: “The CMCO Forum was born out of a need to provide Nigeria’s business leaders with a platform to better navigate the fast-changing marketing communications landscape, as well as provide insights on the adjustments that these leaders need to make in order to effectively deliver profitable business growth”.

Guest speaker Kachi Onubogu, Group Executive Director at Tropical General Investments (TGI) Group and former Promasidor marketing boss, talked about how CMOs and Chief Financial Officers (CFOs) tend to have opposing perspectives on the value of marketing. He urged brand leaders to see marketing more as an investment rather than a spend in order to truly drive brand growth.

Folake highlighted some of the challenges Nigerian marketers face which were discussed throughout the event, including uncertainty in the current economy, companies struggling to keep up with the pace of technological change and the lack of long-term strategic thinking within organisations.

ADVAN Executive Secretary Ediri Ose-Ediale added that there is a need for strong collaboration among Nigerian brand owners in order to tackle these challenges and foster business growth and sustainability amid uncertainty.
